I'm excited to introduce you to our newest artisan group out of Guatemala!
First, we fell in love with their handbags - gorgeous colors & prints, impeccable craftsmanship, & lovely attention to detail. These clutches are even more impressive in person.
Then we fell in love with how & why they are made. I've spent some time in Guatemala & have witnessed the beauty of the country juxtaposed with the poverty first hand.
You may have seen the new hats & beach bags we've gotten in from Madagascar & you may have heard us raving that they're hand woven raffia.
Well, what exactly is raffia?
The Village Collection is a fascinating combination made up a Travel Company and Women's Accessory Artisan. They believe that traveling the world is the best education and host Yoga retreats in Haiti, Cultural Experience in Guatemala and Kenya among other offerings.
My dear friend and colleague, Melissa Chapman, designer of the amazing jewelry line Stone + Smith mentioned to me a while back that she would be spending some time in South East Asia. Since I've not had the privilege of traveling to Cambodia, I thought I could at least live vicariously through her and connected Melissa with one of our longest partners, Sapbay from Craftworks Cambodia.
She's graciously agreed to reflect upon her trip and give us a glimpse into the lives of these artisans we've been proud to support since 2011.
