Local Austin Ethical Fashion Brand Purse & Clutch Becomes a Certified B Corp

Austin, TX

Purse & Clutch, an ethical handbag brand with the mission of supporting long term fair wage employment for artisans globally, announced its certification as a B Corporation (B Corp). This certification reinforces Purse & Clutch’s commitment to providing sustainable jobs with positive work environments to break the cycle of generational poverty in low income communities.

For the last eleven months the Purse & Clutch team has been answering in-depth questions to complete a comprehensive Impact Assessment that encouraged deep conversations with each of their artisan partners, proving with detailed documentation that they are having the positive impact outlined in their mission.

The B Corp Assessment, administered by the nonprofit, B Lab, thoroughly reviewed the areas of environmental impact, corporate governance, how employees are treated, how a business engages with their community, and how they treat their customers.

To become a Certified B Corporation, companies must score a minimum of 80 points on the assessment. The average score of companies taking the assessment is 51. Purse & Clutch is proud to announce an overall sore of 96.9.

“We’ve been doing things with excellence & integrity since starting the company in 2011, but it was important to me to have a third party stand up & verify that we are indeed having a positive impact on the lives of our stakeholders,” said Jen Lewis, Founder & Executive Director of Purse & Clutch.

Along with this announcement, Purse & Clutch also announced that they are now offering custom branding for boutiques, personal brands, fundraisers, and conferences. Adding this offering is going to allow the company to scale to be able to support even more fair wage employment for our artisans in India, Ethiopia & Mexico.
