No such thing as balance.
I’m sitting at my dining room table watching cupcakes bake that my 6 year old & her friend who’s over for the day helped make - stealing away a minute to write this newsletter.
This week, not much work is getting done & I’m continually having to remind myself that it’s okay. That there’s no such thing as balance.
Literally the only thing on my do to list for the week is to write this week’s newsletter.
The reason why I share is that I think we can see each other’s highlight reels of what looks like amazing productivity: in business, in parenthood, in friendship, in keeping one’s house clean - women somehow doing it all - but what you don’t see is when that “balance” skews way to one side.
Taking the foot off the gas petal when you’re running your own business can be scary.
-
What if we loose all this momentum my team & I have been working to create?
-
What if when it’s time to dive back into running things I don’t have the energy?
-
What if sales stop coming in when I’m not posting on social media as much?
It’s in these moments that I try to remember (and am reminding myself this right now!) that things happen in seasons for a reason.
I’m trusting that when I come back to work in full force after Labor Day when my oldest starts school that I’ll be creative & energized & ready to return refreshed, maybe even better than ever.
So I’m choosing to be present & delight in the laughter coming down the hall as the girls play in the secret hideout they just built instead of frantically try to fit work into a week that just doesn’t have the space for it.
Maybe that’s you, too.
And if so, I’m sending a big hug your way because choosing to not fall prey to hustle culture is hard & know that you’re not alone in your resistance!
